MTI教育中心概况

北京大学MTI教育中心是北京大学外国语学院从事翻译硕士专业学位研究生培养的专门机构。

翻译硕士专业学位，即Master of Translation and Interpreting（简称MTI），是经国务院学位委员会批准实施的全国专业学位教育项目。北京大学是国务院学位委员会于2007年批准的15所首批MTI试点教学单位之一。

北京大学MTI教育中心自2008年起面向全国首先招收英语笔译方向的翻译硕士研究生。截至2011年7月，北京大学已向21位MTI研究生授予了翻译硕士专业学位。目前，中心拥有在校就读研究生110余人。

    北京大学MTI教育中心自2008年起，与北京大学软件与微电子学院语言信息工程系全方位开展合作，双方共享所有的课程与教学资源，并于2010年联合招收了首批文本翻译方向的硕士研究生。北京大学MTI教育中心是全国首家将计算机辅助翻译技术（CAT）充分融入翻译硕士培养方案的MTI教育机构。

Our MTI Education Center

The MTI Education Center, affiliated to the School of Foreign Languages and literatures of Peking University, is a master’s program specializing in the training of translation professionals.

The MTI, short for Master of Translation and Interpreting, is a professional level of education approved by the Commission of Academic Degrees of the State Council of China. The MTI Education Center of Peking University is one of the first 15 institutions officially approved to offer courses in this area on an experimental basis.

The MTI Education Center of Peking University began in 2008 to enroll nationwide the master’s degree students in English-Chinese translation and by July, 2011, 21 MTI students have obtained their degrees and there are currently 110 registered students studying in the program.

Since 2008, the MTI Education Center and the Department of Language and Information Engineering, Schoold of Software and Microelectronics have jointly run an MA program in translation, a result of the close cooperation and share of educational resources between the two institutions which in turn makes the MTI program at Peking University the first of its kind in China to fully incorporate CAT into its curriculum.

Our Objectives

The core objective of the MTI Education Center of Peking University isto prepare students for their future careers as professional translators in humanities and social sciences, focusing on the enhancement of their translation skills and work ethic, as well as the accumulation of career-related experiences and a strong awareness of modern language service technologies. The program provides quality training to students with the stress on broadening their intellectual horizons and the breadth of their knowledge in order to qualify them in various fields of translation at professional, practical and advanced levels.

我们的教学

北京大学MTI教育中心目前有在职及全日制两种培养模式。在职培养模式已于2010年停止招生。

研究生的第一学年为选修规定课程及选择毕业翻译题目时段。在申请答辩前一学期，研究生须根据在毕业翻译项目中所获得的经验，在导师的指导下撰写一篇翻译研究报告，研究生将以毕业翻译及翻译研究报告申请参加学位答辩。

研究生在校期间还须：

1. 在第一学期开学后，参加《北京大学英语水平标准测试》（Peking University English Proficiency Test，简称PEPT），测试成绩不合格者须在第二年或毕业前再次参加并通过该测试；
2. 在第一学年每个月（不含假期月份）独立完成4,000字（以汉字计算）自选英译汉翻译作业；
3. 在第一学年，研究生须完成指定的标准课外书目阅读，分两次参加考试并获得合格成绩；
4. 在第二学年参加教育中心或教育中心实习基地的专业实习活动（综合实践），并获得中心相关项目负责人或中心实习基地指导教师的合格评价。

Our Teaching

The MTI Education Center provides full-time and part-time MTI programs. The part-time program has ceased its enrollment since 2010.

MTI students are required to complete their courses and choose their translation projects in the first school year. One semester before the students apply for their thesis defense, they are to write a report on their translation project under the guidance of their supervisors.

During their studies in the program, the MTI students must also meet the following requirements:

1. Students must take the Peking University EnglishProficiency Test (PEPT) at the beginning of the first semester, and those failing the test are granted a second chance in the second school year or before graduation.
2. Students must complete a 4,000-word (Chinese characters in word-count) self-assigned translation each month in the first school year.
3. Students in the first year are required to read on their own five books from a reading list each semester and to pass a written examination.
4. Students must take part in the career-related activities organized by the MTI Education Center or by the Internship Bases of the Center. Evaluation of internship shall be given by officers in charge of the activities or by the supervisors at the internship bases.

我们的课程系统

北京大学MTI教育中心课程系统中的课程类别分必修课、限制性选修课、选修课三种。中心鼓励研究生选修由中心推荐的其它院系的部分人文社科类课程。

课程设置

中心还设有“北京大学博雅语言服务工作室”，此工作室是MTI教育中心和语言信息工程系为MTI和CAT研究生提供的翻译实践平台，是北大MTI和CAT教学系统中的重要组成部分。工作室以学生为主体，完全模拟语言服务企业运作方式，但不以盈利为目的。工作室秉承“博雅胸怀，北大品质”的理念，致力于培养适合社会需求的高素质语言服务人才。

Our Curriculum

The curriculum of the MTI Education Center includes mandatory courses, restricted select courses, and optional courses, and we also recommend to our students some courses in humanities and social sciences offered by other colleges and departments of the university.

Courses Offered

The MTI Education Center has also set up the “PKU BOYA Language Services (PBLS)”, which functions as a collaborative platform for translation practice for both MTI and CAT students. Translation activities of the PBLS are an important part of the teaching of the MTI Education Center. As a non-profit agency operated by students, the PBLS adheres to the principles of professionalism and quality services. Functioning as a language services provider, the PBLS aims mainly to train quality personnel in the field in answer to the rising social needs.

 Our Faculty Members

Under the guidance of the MTI Program Council, the MTI Education Center boasts an outstanding faculty experienced in both theoretical research and professional practice, including renowned scholars in translation studies and experts from leading translation agencies.

我们的学生

截止到2010年10月，北京大学MTI教育中心共招收在职翻译硕士60余人，全日制翻译硕士71人。

为了丰富课余生活，学生们成立了学生社团——北京大学翻译协会，并开展了一系列有益的翻译实践公益活动。

Our Students

As of October, 2010, the number of registered students reached 132, including 61 part-time MTI students and 71 full-time MTI students.

To enrich their extra-curricular life, MTI students have set up the Peking University Translators Association, a platform which allows them to share their views and ideas through a series of translation-related seminars and activities.

我们的资源

北京大学外国语学院配有多媒体教室、境外电视收视设施、同声传译教学设施等，并设有独立的音像室，收有20余个语种7000多种视听文献。2010年，MTI教育中心还组建了北京大学翻译技术实验室，为北大的翻译教育提供了强有力的技术支持。

北京大学图书馆和外国语学院图书分馆藏有大量与MTI教育有关的图书资料，自翻译硕士专业开办以来，MTI教育中心引进国内外翻译教育书籍500余种。

北京大学多学科教学与科研资源也为MTI教育提供了强大的支持。 

Our Resources

The School of Foreign Languages of Peking University is well equipped with multimedia classrooms, satellite TV reception stations, teaching facilities for consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, etc. Its independent audio-visual studio owns more than 7,000 audio-visual materials in over 20 different languages. In 2010, the MTI Education Center established a Translation Technology Laboratory, which has since been providing effective technological support to translation teaching at the university.

The main library of the university and the School of Foreign Languages library have a hold of abundant books on MTI-related subjects. Since the establishment of the MTI program, we have purchased more than 500 books on translation studies from abroad.

In addition, the MTI program also benefits a great deal from the multidisciplinary atmosphere of the university.

我们的特色

北京大学MTI教育中心根据MTI专业教育注重翻译实践及行业经验积累的特征，与北京大学软件与微电子学院语言信息工程系强强联合，通过共同制定培养方案、共享教学资源、联手建立“北大翻译网（www.pkumti.com）”和“北京大学翻译教学支持平台(www.pkumti.net)”专业网站等具体措施，建成了“MTI+CAT”翻译产业专门人才联合培养模式，为进一步探寻翻译硕士培养路径打下了关键的基础。

语言信息工程系是北京大学软件与微电子学院和北京大学计算语言研究所共同建设起来的研究与教学单位，目前开设的专业方向包括：自然语言处理、计算机辅助翻译等，并与北京大学MTI教育中心建立了文本翻译联合培养项目。

MTI教育中心还牵头组织了“博雅翻译文化沙龙”，沙龙秘书处设在北京大学MTI教育中心，沙龙官方网站为“www.transors.org”。

此沙龙是面向同道同行的高端翻译文化沙龙，主要由参与翻译教育的相关院校和语言服务企业自愿结成的学术性、行业性、非盈利性组织，旨在网聚国内外译界精英,关注翻译教育和翻译行业的结合,为中国的翻译教育和翻译行业的发展多做一些有益的工作。

沙龙年会名称为“中国翻译职业交流大会”，本年会属于全国性、公益性、非盈利性的研讨大会，每年均在5至6月份择日举行。沙龙内刊为《博雅翻译文化沙龙》，内容涵盖翻译行业信息、翻译教学和翻译实践、翻译年会和沙龙活动中的研讨综述、论文、翻译专家采访报告、行业专题讲座等。

Our Features

The MTI Education Center offers a joint master’s program in conjunction with the Department of Language Information and Engineering of the School of Software and Microelectronics. With the aim of sharing teaching resources, the two institutions offer a common set of courses under the common guidelines for education and have collaboratively established the Peking University Translation website (http://www.pkumti.com) and the Peking University Online Translation Platform (http://www.pkumti.net). Through our joint efforts, we have established a MTI+CAT mode of pedagogy particularly well geared to the cultivation of professionals in the translation industry, laying a solid foundation for further innovations in the training of master’s students in this field.

The Department of Language Information and Engineering, established by both School of Software and Microelectronics and Institute of Computational Linguistics, has such majors as Language Information Processing and Computer Aided Translation (CAT). The department has also set up a Text Translation program jointly with the MTI Education Center of Peking University.

The MTI Education Center also took the lead in the establishment of BOYA Translation Culture Salon and is the place where the secretariat is set in. The official website of the Salon is www.transors.org.

 As an elite gathering in this industry, academic, industry-oriented and non-profit, BOYA Translation Culture Salon is formed with some known translation educators and leaders of prestigious enterprises of language services and related technology, in order to make positive contributions to the development of translation education and industry in China with a special effort to relate education with industry.

The regular conference of BOYA Translation Culture Salon, named “China Education Profession Forum,” is a nation-wide and public-service meeting and is held each year some time in May or June. The internal journal of BOYA Translation Culture Salon is entitled　BOYA Transors，which covers information related with translation education, translation industry, thesis and reports delivered in the annual meetings and other activities.

我们的经验

2009年，北京大学MTI教育中心承办了中国译协《中国翻译》编辑部主办的“第二十一届韩素音青年翻译奖竞赛”。本次竞赛首次增加了复赛环节，并利用网络实时提交复赛译文，从而为真正有才华的青年译者提供了充分展示其翻译能力的机会。

2009年11月14日，正值首批翻译硕士即将毕业之际，北京大学MTI教育中心与国务院学位委员会/教育部全国翻译硕士专业学位教育指导委员会、中国翻译协会翻译理论与翻译教学委员会联合主办了“全国首届翻译硕士（MTI）教育与翻译产业研讨会”，共同总结、交流和分享了各院校在近两年的实践中所获得的MTI教育经验与成果，对课堂教学与基地实习、传统教材与IT工具、行业规范与实务管理、职业培养与就业指导等方面进行了深入探讨。

2010年5月29日，“中国翻译职业交流大会”在北京大学举行。本次大会是在中国翻译协会本地化服务委员会的指导下，由北京大学外国语学院 / 软件与微电子学院、北京航空航天大学外国语学院，北京师范大学外国语言文学学院，对外经济贸易大学英语学院，南开大学外国语学院等五个单位联合主办，由北京大学外国语学院（MTI）/ 软件与微电子学院（CAT）承办。本次大会分为产学融合与交流、高校人才培养与企业人才期望、翻译实践与职业发展、企业国际化与语言服务，以及翻译技术与翻译教学等五个议题，分别从企业对翻译专业人才的要求、翻译职业发展规划、翻译人才教育与培训、翻译技术开发与应用等方面进行了专题演讲和讨论。

2011年的中国翻译职业交流大会于5月28日在北京航空航天大学召开。此次大会由博雅翻译文化沙龙主办、北京航空航天大学与中国对外翻译出版公司联合承办。与会嘉宾围绕“案例教学”的大会主题，就“行业需求与案例教学”、“翻译案例教学”、“翻译教育新发展”、“翻译教育与翻译实践”等八个议题进行了深入交流和讨论。 

Our Experiences

The PKU MTI Education Center hosted in 2009 the 21^st Han Suyin Translation Contest organized by the editorial board of the Chinese Journal of Translation. Elimination tests were adopted during this contest for the first time and the contestants who entered the finals were required to take part in real-time online contest by submitting their translations synchronously, thus fostering a fair play and allowing young translators a true opportunity to manifest their talent.

On November 14, 2009, the PKU MTI Education Center jointly held the first National Symposium on MTI Education and Translation Service with the Academic Degrees Commission of the State Council, National MTI Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Education, and the Committee on Translation Theory and Teaching of the Chinese Translators' Association. Participants shared their experiences in the two years of MTI education and discussed in-depth  issues concerning classroom teaching and internship, textbook selection and IT tools, vocational norms and management, as well as career guidance and adoption.

On May 29, 2010, the China Translation Profession Forum took place at Peking University under the guidance of the LocalizationService Committee of the Translators Association of China, jointly sponsored by the School of Foreign Languages and School of Software and Microelectronics of Peking University, School of Foreign Languages of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, School of Foreign Languages and Literatures of Beijing Normal University, the School of International Studies of the University of International Business and Economics, the School of Foreign Languages of Nankai University. Topics discussed at the conference included the transition from translation teaching to industry, intellectual training of higher education institutions and the expectation from enterprises, translation practice and career development, enterprise globalization and localization, as well as translation technology and teaching. Keynote speeches and presentations focused on subjects such as the market demand on translation professionals, career planning and development in translation, translation teaching and training, development and application of translation technology, etc.

The 2011 China Translation Profession Forum jointly organized by BOYA Translation Culture Salon, Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronauticsand China Translation & Publishing Corporation was held on May 28 at Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, with the theme “The Case Method of Teaching.” Participants in eight panel sessions had in-depth discussions on such topics as “The Needs of the Translation Industry and the Case Method of Teaching,” “Teaching Translation through the Case Method,” “New Developments in Translation Education,” and “Translation Education and Translation Practice.”
